The reality with GWM is that the SA aftermarket has matured a lot — service items, brakes, clutch kits, suspension bushes, water pumps and most sensors are well-supported through reputable aftermarket suppliers at 25-40% below the genuine GWM price. For sensitive electronic modules, ECU components, the more specialist diesel injection parts and certain body panels we'll usually quote the genuine GWM option too, because aftermarket quality on those is more mixed. We're upfront about which route we'd choose for each line on the quote.

Steed 5 and P-Series service and wear items are usually couriered same-day or next-day inside Johannesburg. Items we have to pull from a second supplier in Gauteng typically arrive within 1-3 working days. Specialist electronic modules, certain ABS sensors and rare body panels can take 5-10 days because they're often imported through the GWM distributor channel. We confirm an honest ETA on the quote — we don't promise next-day on parts that have to come from Durban or overseas.

The GW4D20 2.0 turbo diesel in the Steed 5 commonly has two big-ticket issues: a sticking turbo actuator and worn-out injectors. Aftermarket turbo actuators land in the R3500-R5500 range — refurbished units are sometimes available for less. Diesel injectors are typically R1800-R2400 each aftermarket; most jobs replace all four. Add an injector seal/washer kit and high-pressure pipes if they're tired. We'll quote the parts; fitment is on your workshop side.

On the GW4D20M 2.0 diesel and the GW4C20A 2.0 petrol fitted to the P-Series, the timing chain kit (chain, tensioner, guides and sometimes sprockets) typically runs R3800-R6500 in aftermarket pricing for the parts alone. Genuine GWM kits sit higher. We strongly recommend doing the full kit, not just the chain, and replacing the water pump and crank/cam seals while the front cover is off. The older 2.2 petrol and 2.5 diesel Steeds are also still covered through aftermarket and breaker channels.
