It depends sharply on the model and how specialist the part is. As a guide for the most-quoted items: front brake pads on Cherokee KL and Compass run R550-R950 aftermarket and R1,200-R1,800 OEM, a 3.2 or 3.6 Pentastar oil cooler O-ring kit (the famous V6 leak) is around R450-R850 aftermarket against R1,200-R1,800 OEM, a Cherokee KL or Wrangler steering damper sits at R650-R1,400 aftermarket versus R2,200+ genuine Mopar, a ZF 9HP transmission service kit (filter, pan gasket, ATF) is R2,400-R3,400 aftermarket, and a Wrangler JK/JL front lower control arm runs R850-R1,600 aftermarket. Drivetrain specialist items — PCM modules, ZF 9HP valve bodies, Quadra-Trac transfer case parts — are usually quoted as Mopar OEM or tested used. Send your VIN and we'll quote OEM, OE-supplier and aftermarket side-by-side in ZAR before you commit.
Both, where the SA supply chain allows. For service items, brakes, suspension, cooling and most engine ancillaries we can source genuine Mopar OEM alongside reputable aftermarket — brands like Bosch, Mahle, Gates, FAG, Lemforder, Monroe and Hella cover most of what a Cherokee, Grand Cherokee or Wrangler asks for. OE-supplier is usually the sweet spot at 30-40% below Mopar list. For the ZF 9HP transmission internals, the Pentastar V6 PCM software updates, Quadra-Trac transfer case rebuilds and the electronic shift selector on WK2 Grand Cherokees, we'll usually flag Mopar OEM or known-good used as the safer route. Compass, Renegade and Gladiator parts pool is shallower than Cherokee and Wrangler — lead times can stretch.
Stocked service items and brakes for Cherokee KL, Grand Cherokee WK2 and Wrangler JK usually go same-day or next-day via courier inside Johannesburg. OE-supplier and aftermarket items pulled from a second JHB supplier typically land within 1-3 working days. Specialist items — a particular ZF 9HP valve body, a Compass Trailhawk-specific PTU, or a Gladiator-specific tailgate panel — can stretch to 7-14 working days while we work the SA Stellantis network or arrange a US import. We'll give you a real ETA on the quote, not a placeholder.
The ZF 9HP transmission in the Cherokee KL (and Compass and Renegade Trailhawk) has a well-documented harsh-shift and shudder complaint, particularly the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts under light throttle. The first fix is always a PCM and TCM software update — Mopar has released multiple recalibrations for the 948TE/9HP and most workshops can flash this. If the software flash doesn't resolve it, the next step is a full ATF service with the correct ZF-spec fluid and a new pan filter — kit pricing runs R2,400-R3,400 aftermarket. If shudder persists after fluid and flash, you're typically looking at a valve body replacement (R12,000-R22,000 Mopar OEM, sometimes available rebuilt for less) or a complete unit. We supply parts only — software flashes and fitment go through your workshop. We're an aftermarket supplier, not a Stellantis dealer.
The 3.2 and 3.6 Pentastar V6 fitted across Cherokee KL, Grand Cherokee WK2, Wrangler JK and JL has a known oil cooler housing O-ring failure that lets oil seep down the back of the engine and onto the bell-housing. The fix is the updated oil cooler housing kit with revised O-rings — aftermarket kits run R450-R850 and Mopar OEM around R1,200-R1,800. The job is labour-heavy because the intake manifold has to come off to reach it, so most owners replace the rocker arms, lifters and PCV valve at the same time while the top end is open. If you're hearing a tick from the top of the engine alongside the leak, that's the well-documented Pentastar rocker arm wear — quote a full rocker arm and lifter kit at the same time so the workshop isn't in there twice.
Death wobble on Wrangler JK and JL — that violent front-end shake that kicks in around 80-100 km/h after hitting a bump — is rarely just the steering damper, even though that's the headline part everyone replaces first. The damper is a symptom-fix, not a root cause. The actual culprit is usually worn track bar bushings, a loose track bar mount, worn drag link or tie rod ends, ball joints or a wheel-balance issue compounding the lot. A quality aftermarket steering damper (Bilstein, Old Man Emu, Rancho) at R650-R1,400 will mask mild wobble for a while but it'll come back. The proper fix is a full front-end inspection — track bar, drag link, tie rod ends, ball joints, control arm bushings and wheel balance — and replacing what's actually worn. Aftermarket track bars and control arms are well-stocked locally because the Wrangler off-road scene keeps demand alive. Send the year and we'll quote the likely worn items.
