Mahindra TUV300 Parts — Common Faults & SA Pricing
The Mahindra TUV300 is a body-on-frame compact SUV/utility that landed in South Africa with rugged underpinnings borrowed from the Scorpio platform. Powered by the 1.5-litre mHawk100 three-cylinder turbo diesel pushing around 74kW and 240Nm, it pairs with either a 5-speed manual or AMT (automated manual) gearbox driving the rear wheels. The TUV300 found a niche with fleet buyers, small businesses and rural households who needed ladder-frame durability without paying Hilux money. We are an aftermarket supplier — not an authorised Mahindra dealer, not a workshop. We source and supply parts for the TUV300 from the SA aftermarket trade and ship countrywide.
The good news for TUV300 owners is that the SA aftermarket for Mahindra has matured significantly over the last few years. Where parts used to mean a long wait at a franchise dealer, you can now get turbo actuators, clutch kits, water pumps, suspension bushes, brake components and body panels through independent traders at roughly 35-55% off dealer pricing. We stock fast-moving service and wear items and can source slow-moving parts within 3-7 working days through our network. Send us your VIN, engine number and a clear description of what you need — we will quote landed price in ZAR including VAT, no surprises at delivery.
Turbo actuator failure (mHawk100 1.5)
The electronic turbo actuator on the mHawk100 is a known weak point. Symptoms include limp-mode warnings, loss of boost, EGR-related fault codes and a flashing engine light under load. The actuator gets cooked by exhaust heat over time and the internal gears strip. Aftermarket replacement actuators land between R4,500 and R6,500 depending on brand and whether you go with a remanufactured unit or new. Full turbo replacement is closer to R12,000-R18,000 aftermarket. We always recommend checking the actuator and recalibrating before condemning the whole turbo — many TUV300s have had unnecessary turbo replacements when only the actuator was at fault.
Clutch wear (5MT)
Manual TUV300s used as load-carriers or in heavy traffic chew clutches faster than expected. Symptoms are high biting point, slip under load (especially uphill with passengers), shudder on take-off and a burnt smell. Aftermarket clutch kits — pressure plate, friction disc and release bearing — sit at R3,800 to R5,500 depending on supplier and whether you choose Valeo, LUK-equivalent or generic. Flywheel skim adds R600-R900 at a machine shop. AMT versions have an additional actuator hydraulic unit that can fail separately — that is a more expensive job and we can source the AMT clutch actuator on request.
Water pump and cooling system
Water pump failure on the mHawk100 typically shows as a coolant leak from the timing cover area, low coolant warnings, or whining noise from the front of the engine. Aftermarket water pumps for the TUV300 are well-priced at R650 to R1,200 — pair with a new thermostat (R280-R450) and a coolant flush while the system is open. Lower radiator hoses and the expansion tank are common companion failures past 100,000km. Catch a leaking pump early — the mHawk100 does not tolerate overheating and a cooked head gasket on this engine turns a R900 job into a R15,000+ job.
Suspension bushes, leaf springs and rear brakes
The TUV300 runs leaf springs at the rear and the bushes plus shackle pins fatigue quickly on SA roads — particularly on TUV300s used to carry tools or stock daily. Symptoms include clunking over speed bumps, sagging rear ride height and uneven tyre wear. Front lower control arm bushes and stabiliser link bushes also go. Bush kits run R350-R900 per corner aftermarket. Rear brakes are drum-style — replacement brake shoes are R420-R650 a set and drums around R750-R1,100 each. Wheel cylinders R280-R420. We supply full rear brake refurb kits as a single line item.
Body panels, AC compressor and alternator
Light front-end collisions are common and front fender, bonnet and grille are the usual replacement items. We work through a panel beater channel for body panels — front fender around R1,800-R2,800, bonnet R3,200-R4,800, headlamp unit R1,400-R2,200 aftermarket. AC compressor clutch failure (not full compressor) is a known issue — clutch hub and bearing assembly is R1,600-R2,400 versus R6,500+ for a complete compressor. Alternators show wear past 120,000km with charging warning lights and dim headlights at idle — aftermarket replacements R2,400-R3,800, or recon at R1,400-R2,000 if your core is rebuildable.
Mahindra TUV300 — Frequently Asked Questions
Do you stock Mahindra TUV300 parts or do you have to order in?
Fast-moving items — filters, brake pads/shoes, water pumps, bushes, AC compressor clutches, common sensors — we keep in stock or can pull same-day from local trade. Slower items like specific body panels, AMT actuators, and certain engine internals we source within 3-7 working days through our aftermarket network. Send us your VIN, engine number and what you need and we will confirm availability and lead time in writing before you commit.
Are these genuine Mahindra parts or aftermarket?
We are an aftermarket supplier — not an authorised Mahindra dealer. We supply quality aftermarket equivalents at roughly 35-55% below franchise dealer pricing. Where the OE manufacturer (e.g. Bosch, Valeo, Mando, Denso) supplies the dealer too, we can often source the same brand unbranded. If you specifically need a genuine Mahindra-boxed part for warranty or fleet contract reasons we will tell you upfront — you are better off going to a Mahindra dealer for that.
Can you fit the parts for me?
No — we are a parts supplier, not a workshop. We can refer you to independent diesel specialists or general workshops in Johannesburg that we have worked with and trust, but we do not do fitment ourselves. We supply parts only, with VAT invoice, and ship countrywide.
How much is a clutch kit for a TUV300 5MT?
Aftermarket clutch kits — pressure plate, friction disc and release bearing — sit at R3,800 to R5,500 depending on brand. Valeo or LUK-equivalent at the top of that range, generic at the bottom. Flywheel skim if needed adds about R600-R900 at a machine shop. AMT versions have a separate clutch actuator hydraulic unit which is a different (more expensive) job — quote on request.
My TUV300 is in limp mode with low boost — is it definitely the turbo?
Not necessarily. The electronic turbo actuator is the more common failure point on the mHawk100 — much cheaper to replace than the whole turbo (R4,500-R6,500 vs R12,000-R18,000). EGR valve faults, boost-pipe leaks and MAP/MAF sensor issues also throw limp-mode codes. Get a proper diagnostic scan before you commit to a turbo replacement. We can supply the actuator, EGR, sensors or the full turbo — but get the diagnosis right first.
Do you ship outside Johannesburg?
Yes — we ship nationwide via courier. Smaller parts go overnight to most metros, body panels and bulky items take 2-4 working days depending on destination. Courier cost is quoted on the invoice — we use insured couriers so if anything is damaged in transit it is covered.
