It depends heavily on which Opel and which part. As a working guide for the parts we quote most often: a Corsa or Astra timing chain kit (Z14XEP/Z18XER) is around R3,200-R4,800 aftermarket versus R6,500-R8,500 OEM, a Z16XER coolant temp sensor lands at R180-R350 aftermarket, an Astra J or Mokka 1.4T water pump is R1,400-R2,200 aftermarket against R2,800-R4,200 OEM, front brake pads run R380-R750 a set, and a Crossland 1.2 PureTech wet timing belt kit is R3,500-R5,500 aftermarket. Send your VIN and we'll quote OEM, OE-supplier and aftermarket side-by-side in ZAR before you commit to anything.
Both. For most Opel models we can source genuine GM/Opel OEM parts, OE-supplier brands (Febi Bilstein, Hella, Bosch, Pierburg, SKF, Lemforder, NTN, Gates) and budget aftermarket equivalents. OE-supplier is usually the sweet spot — same factory that makes the Opel-boxed part — and runs 30-45% below OEM list. For wear items, bushes, sensors and ignition parts that's our default recommendation. For ECU, body control modules and emissions parts on newer Crossland and Grandland we'll usually flag OEM or known-good used as the safer choice.
Stocked items inside Johannesburg usually go same-day or next-day via courier. OE-supplier items we pull from a second JHB supplier typically land within 1-3 working days. Less common parts — early Corsa B/C trim, specific Combo van bits, or a particular Grandland sensor — can stretch to 5-10 working days while we work the SA network or wait on a European import. We'll give you an honest ETA on the quote rather than a placeholder.
Yes — the SA aftermarket for early Corsa is surprisingly deep because there are so many still on the road as daily runners and learner cars. Z12XE, Z14XEP and Z16XEP engine parts, timing chain kits, water pumps, alternators, starter motors, electric power steering pumps, coolant temp sensors, ignition coils, cooling fans and suspension bushes are all stocked locally through OE-supplier and aftermarket brands. Body panels, lights and interior trim sometimes come through breaker yards. Send the model year and your part number and we'll tell you straight whether it's a quick local pull or a longer hunt.
The PSA EB2 1.2 PureTech engine (fitted to Crossland and shared with Peugeot 208 and Citroen C3) uses a wet timing belt that runs in engine oil — a design that's known internationally for premature degradation. Belt material breaks down, plastic strands clog the oil pick-up, and in worst cases starves the engine. Service interval was originally 175,000 km, dropped by Stellantis to around 100,000 km, and many independents now recommend 80,000 km as a hard cap. A full kit (belt, tensioner, oil pump pickup strainer, filter, oil) is around R3,500-R5,500 aftermarket plus workshop labour. If you bought the car used without service history, replace it preventatively — the alternative is a rebuilt or replacement engine.
For most models, yes — Opel and Vauxhall were the same GM Europe family and share the vast majority of mechanical, electrical and body parts under different badges. Corsa B/C/D/E, Astra G/H/J, Mokka, Combo and Crossland all have direct Vauxhall equivalents with identical part numbers. UK-sourced parts and even some imported breaker stock will fit your South African Opel without modification. Where things diverge is right-hand-drive-specific trim, badges and some emissions/regional electronics — we'll flag those on the quote rather than ship the wrong part.
